Chemcare’s other decontamination services

Due to the success of Chemcare’s transparent, cost-effective solutions, our growth has allowed us to employ a very skilled team of decontaminators across a wide range of practices. Their skillset extends beyond meth decontamination into other areas such as asbestos, mould, trauma scenes etc. So we’re now launching an extension of our services into five other areas: asbestos, mould, fire, flood, and biohazard remediation.

Asbestos

The dangers of asbestos exposure have now become common knowledge, and thankfully it isn’t something that is used in building today. However, all buildings constructed before 1990 are at risk of having some asbestos in the structure. Asbestos dust is dangerous if inhaled. When the fibres are very fine, it’s hard for the lungs to remove them and they can cause serious problems including: asbestosis, lung cancer and tumours in the lungs & intestine.

April 2018 will see the full effect of the latest asbestos regulations. The regulation will mean a PCBU (person conducting a business or an undertaking) will have more responsibility to identify asbestos in all commercial buildings and private dwellings going under renovation. An asbestos surveyor needs to have sufficient training, qualifications, knowledge, experience and ability to sample and identify asbestos. They must also demonstrate independence and use a quality management system.

Chemcare has competent removal staff, WorkSafe licensed assessors and certified equipment ready for any asbestos removal job. Chemcare also runs regular asbestos awareness courses for the entire CC Group and invites anybody who wants to learn more to attend.

Mould

Allergic responses, respiratory tract infections, headaches and fatigue have all been proven by international scientific research to be linked to mould. Mould flourishes in New Zealand due to the climate and a lapse in building construction techniques. With the humid environment, leaky buildings & plumbing failures; mould can affect your building and the health of the occupants. With the presence of black mould and other cases deemed bad enough, buildings can be declared ‘off-limits’.

Chemcare has IICRC certified applied microbial technicians who follow the S520 standard for mould removal.

The first action our specialists undertake is diagnosis of the building. By using advanced equipment, we are able to determine the current moisture content and pinpoint potential issues. Once the area of contamination has been identified and investigated, we bring in specialised airflow equipment to ensure mould spores are contained and the job is completed efficiently and safely.

We then determine the source of moisture ingression which contributed to the initial mould growth and then assign the correct drying method for the job. The last stage is a comprehensive program of clearance testing.

Of course in some cases when the mould is rampant throughout the building, disposal of materials is the only option for effective mould removal. This is the most effective way of eradicating mould at the source as it tends to spread very quickly.

Chemcare can provide property inspections and training on the risks of mould exposure as we believe education is the first step to mould prevention.

Biohazard/trauma

A biohazard or trauma event occurs when human or biological waste contaminates a surface or environment. Some of these situations include sewage leakage, hoarder properties contaminated by vermin, trauma scenes from bodily fluid loss and animal infestation. These situations can be extremely stressful to encounter. Furthermore, the risk to health is high as these hazardous waste contaminants are extremely toxic.

We have a 24 hour help line to assist in any hazardous or infectious contamination. Chemcare’s technicians are IICRC certified, have over 25 years’ experience and follow the latest standards including the ANSI/IICRC S540. All technicians wear full protective gear and make sure the situation is handled as discreetly as possible. We can ensure that the area is returned to you in a clean and safe condition. Chemcare follows strict environmental policies for hazardous waste disposal to eliminate the risk of infection after the decontamination is completed.

Flood

Flooding can cause extensive and long-lasting damage. Whether the flood was caused by a minor bath overflow or large sewage back flow, quick action can mean saving a property from permanent water damage. Chemcare‘s 24 hour help-line can offer advice and flood restoration in any situation. We want to protect your property from secondary damage; such as mould or condensation damage, by insuring your property is dried quickly and efficiently with the most advanced equipment. Our technicians follow the IICRC S500 standard and are WRT (Water Restoration Technician), AMRT (Applied Microbial Restoration Technician) and CDS (Commercial Drying Specialist) certified specialists.

Fire

Although the fire trucks have left, the remaining fire damage is devastating and expensive. Furniture, construction, clothing and appliances can be the first things to be affected. During this time, you want a trustworthy company that will restore as much as possible. Chemcare understands the value of personal belongings and we aim to salvage as much as possible.

Some of our services within fire restoration include: water extraction, drying the property,  smoke & soot removal, odour control, content cleaning and electronic restoration. We will assess your contents to see what will be salvageable and what items will need to be disposed of. You can be confident that Chemcare will achieve a high standard of restoration. Where others may recommend disposal of some personal contents Chemcare understands sentimental connections and does not always consider the cost of replacement vs restoration for such precious items. In some situations digital copies can be made of pictures and documents so they’re not lost forever.
